NGO Day explored
use of online services for industry |
Cyberport played a critical role in the 9th NGO Day to examine how online
services can boost the NGO sector.
As a strategic partner of the NGO Day, the event was also co-organized by
Microsoft and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service. Meanwhile, the University
of Hong Kong announced the findings on its Local Youth Services Opinions survey
on the same day, the survey has provided insight on the effectiveness of NGOs
leveraging internet communication tools to reach out to the youth in Hong Kong.
Over 150 participants from around 60 NGOs attended the full day event, generated
fruitful discussion and ideas on the use of online resources to get in touch
with and serve NGO target clients.
Representatives from Web Organics, Samaritan Befrienders Hong Kong and Lutheran
Church-Hong Kong Synod shared their experiences in launching online services.
This year’s NGO Day facilitated tripartite communications between the
government, IT industry and community sector to share trends and tips on online
services.
Aside from opening remarks from the heads of Microsoft, the government’s
Information Department, the Hong Kong Council of Social Service and Cyberport,
panellists focused on issues such as getting social workers into the online
world, sharing on social networking sites, website probing for suicide and
providing instant emotional support.
