About DELF 2009

This year's DELF will bring the world class creative community Wellington, New Zealand to Hong Kong. Wellington is the capital city of a small country distant from its markets. It has built and continues to grow viable and successful international digital media businesses while at the same time fostering an engaging an attractive modern digital life-style.

In many ways, Hong Kong and New Zealand are quite similar. Both have a small domestic market, and both are located next to a much larger mainland market that exerts considerable social and economic influence. Yet, it is interesting to note that New Zealand's world class digital entertainment industry is very much a home grown phenomenon, not driven by the mainland influence.

This new intellectual capital of the global economy is driven by creativity. A primary manifestation is media whether available as film in a theatre, video on a television or multiple media over the Internet or interactive mobile phone display. Whereas past DELF events have focused on various aspects of digital content, such as videogames, animation/special F/X, or 3D cinema, DELF 2009 will focus on how to build a viable creative community like Wellington, NZ and what lessons can be shared as well as what bridges that can be built.

DELF 2009 will focus on what can be learned, extrapolated or emulated from Wellington to help and facilitate Hong Kong to become an exemplar and globally successful creative digital community. In addition, this event will provide the context and opportunity to explore future collaborations and linkages between NZ and HK's creative professionals.
