You will also have up-to-the-minute access to the thousands of authors and publishers via Factiva as well as Wisers.

Cyberport signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Internet Professionals Association of Hong Kong and the ARC Research Studios, and the research division of the Austrian Research Centers-ARC GmbH. The objective of the MOU is to establish a management framework for collaboration in a series of complementary projects related to the field of smart media, e-Entertainment, mobile entertainment, digital contents, games and other application related developments.

1. Filmart 23-25 June 2004

• Cyberport booth
  The eighth Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (Filmart) emphasized all things digital at its three-day confab , which kicked off on 23 June. DMC participated at the Cyberport booth at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, showcasing the digital multimedia creative production facilities.
  
  
• Digital Technology Conference
  Dr. Krates Ng, Centre Manager of DMC conducted a seminar of “Pushing the Envelope: Latest 3D Technologies that Enhances Your Next Digital Production” for this conference. Apart from our Dr. Ng, Mr. Robert Minkoff, Director of Stuart Little & The Lion King, Mr. Steven D. Katz, Filmmaker and Author of Shot by Shot & Cinematic Motion and Dr. Man-Nang Chong, Chief Executive Officer, GDC Technology Limited also presented their own topics at the conference.
  
  
• 3D Scanning
  3D scanning quickly digitizes an object’s 3D geometry and texture in color. DMC is the leader in 3D scanning as it is the only centre with 8 scanning digitizers. We put two of our scanning digitizers for the demonstration of face scan. All of the visitors were amazed by our latest technology in creative production.

2. Phoenix TV to Feature the DMC

DMC was featured in one of the “Trendy Guide” (“完全時尚手冊”) TV programmes of Phoenix TV. This series was broadcasted in June, featuring our multimedia lab, which includes motion capture and 3D scanning. Mr. Nicholas Yang, Chief Executive Officer of Cyberport Management Company Limited, was interviewed in this programme, sharing the establishment of DMC, which is a milestone of cultivating the small and medium enterprise in the development of digital media production.

Technology Watch

• DMC selected HP ProLiant blade servers.
  As an industry leader, HP is also one of the vendors that is able to provide a full technology roadmap that aids the DMC in planning for equipment upgrades and migrations down the road, critical to balancing conservative fiscal requirements with the need DMC on the leading edge.
  
  We choose HP because of its cutting-edge server technology which has been used for many major animated features, as well as the innovative features of its products. Most importantly, HP Proliant blade servers offer remote server management tools that make it easy to perform a variety of routine management tasks without our technicians having to attend to each server and workstation.
  
  
• DMC offers motion capture services via VZ4000 Tracking System from Phoenix Technologies Incoporated.
  The system is based on active-optical technology, and captures the 3D position of the subject as s/he goes through her/his motion. The system allows the capture of complete, real time, full-body motion of one or multiple characters for use in game development, special effects projects, virtually hosted TV programs, as well as various scientific research applications.
  
  Recently, Agogo Entertainment Limited have chosen our motion capture service for capturing real-time movements for the production of animation, in complementary to the traditional key-framing methods to depict movements. It allows developers to produce lifelike faces and bodies for a complete “reality” experience.
