Description :3.2.1 Vision: Using mobile learning platforms, to develop subject-specific e-GOs that assist users to create visual representations of their knowledge and thoughts, that can be modified, evaluated and backtracked. The new application will accommodate responses from a single user or multiple users, enabling feedbacks from users to be used in refining and finalizing the new e-GOs. 3.2.2 Mission: Create subject-specific e-GOs aimed at improving thinking skills of users. The model curriculum will be Liberal Studies Module 6: Energy Technology and the Environmental of the new senior secondary curriculum. Liberal Studies (LS) issues are good model subjects for the new subject-specific e-GOs because quality answers on LS issues require a user to achieve higher levels of the Bloom taxonomy. In LS learning and teaching approaches, the 2007 Curriculum Development Council of the Hong Kong Education Bureau recommended that: “Teachers may choose to make use of mental tools (e.g. mind maps, thinking models) to promote students’ thinking;” The inquiry of our project includes: i) Synthesizing LS-specific e-GOs based on interactive Q&A feedbacks from users, ii) Using the e-GOs to guide users through a thinking pathway that achieves the 6 levels (remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating and creating ) of cognitive recognition proposed by Broom and coworkers and iii) Testing the e-GOs on teachers and students on LS issues; these users will rate the effectiveness of the e-GOs and the feedbacks will be used to improve and finalize the prototypes. 3.2.3 Positioning: The project creates a mobile learning platform that can be accessed at the convenience of users. The application is in line with Hong Kong Education Bureau’s recommendation on the use of technology, including IT, in helping the development of LS learning. Longer term objectives include developing e-GOs in other disciplines such as finance, economics, science and technology.
