Blockchain Gamer Connects 2019 shows off best potentials of blockchain in games

Following the successful DELF 2019, Cyberport continued to power up the digital entertainment and esports ecosystem by hosting the globally acclaimed Blockchain Gamer Connects 2019 (BGC), an international conference on blockchain and games.

The two-day conference, which was making an Asian debut at Cyberport, packed networking, pitching, showcasing, seminars, and fringe events and attracted more than 600 delegates from 45 countries and regions.

More than 100 world-class speakers shared their insights on a host of topics across seminar tracks, from market dynamics, live ops, and monetisation to visions on esports, mobile apps, and industry development.

Four esports companies from the Cyberport community also spoke at the seminars, including Twitchy Finger (mobile games developer and publisher), APPTUTTi (games and apps publisher), GoGoChart (mobile apps marketing guru), and Animoca Brands (gamification developer).

Knowledge sharing aside, gaining exposure and making connections were the order of the day. At the Very Big Indie Zone, 20 companies pitched their games to panels of experts in speed-dating style. In the end, Minidragon, a games developer and Cyberport community member, impressed the judges and claimed the accolade.

Developers, publishers, and investors also met during the SpeedMatch and Investor Connector sessions to initiate contacts and discuss cooperation opportunities.

Dr Stella Kwan, Chief Corporate Development Officer of Cyberport, expressed that Cyberport is actively fostering vibrant ecosystems for and promoting the growth of blockchain and esports. “Many companies are actively pursuing the creation of high-end gaming experiences based on a blockchain backbone,” she said. “I have no doubt that all of the insightful talks, discussions, activities, and networking events at the BGC, and at the DE*Spark events that will take place during the next two weeks, will inspire more people to pay attention to blockchain, esports and digital entertainment, appreciate the possibilities and the prospects of these technologies, and take part in building this amazing industry.”

BGC was organised by Steel Media, powered by Cyberport, and co-organised by Animoca Brands.
