Hong Kong E-Sports & Music Festival 2019 caps off a month of exciting esports and digital entertainment ![]() July has been a exhilarating month with non-stop esports and digital entertainment events that gathered inspiring insights and industry updates. The extravaganza continued with esports contests, a senior esports experience day, and another spotlight of the Hong Kong E-Sports & Music Festival 2019 (EMF 2019).
Cyberport was the presenter and strategic partner of this year’s EMF 2019, organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. In addition to hosting the EMF 2019 LoL International Collegiate Championship Qualifiers at Cyberport ahead of the main event, Cyberport showcased a Game Zone and a Career Zone on the fairground to present the leading hub’s gaming start-up innovations and numerous related job opportunities.
At Cyberport Game Zone, many tried their hands at innovative games such as Hachi Hachi, a mobile music game created by incubatee SkyTree; and CyberJump, animation developed by Ember Entertainment Limited. The popular virtual idol, i0, developed by Redspot, attracted fans to enjoy immersive experience and interaction with great fun. Redspot’s virtual idol also took up as virtual host to chat with one of DELF’s keynote speakers on stage.
The Career Zone provided information about the esports job opportunities offered by local esports companies, including YEAH Asia League, ER Esports, Kowloon EStadium, and REES. The hot job openings available spanned across esports hosts/commentators, course instructors, brand ambassadors, business development managers, graphic designers, video production coordinators, and mobile app developers.
Leveraging the esports mania, Cyberport also collaborated with Niio, an international new media art platform to organise the Esports Digital Arts Prizes 2019, the first esports-themed digital art competition held in Hong Kong to let digital artists flex their creativity.
Held concurrently with EMF, Cyberport also made its presence at the Animation, Comics and Games Expo 2019 (ACG 2019) to showcase “Made in Hong Kong, Made in Cyberport” games, including those created by alumni Game Deva Hong Kong and other community members. What’s more, representatives of Cyberport’s incubatees GameSpace and Genuine Studio spoke at a session to share the developments of the game industry.
