The long-awaited first season of the Esports Premier League (EPL), which was put off by the pandemic, is finally underway.
Featuring an impressive prize pool of HK$450,000, the EPL is
attracting pro-gamers and amateurs alike to strut their stuff over
League of Legends (LOL), Arena of Valor (AOV), or eFootball PES2020.
Even top players, such as Pasa, a high-ranking LOL player in Hong Kong, are joining to enjoy some esports fun.
Due to social distancing requirements, qualifier rounds have been
moved online, and a new qualification system has been adopted to enable
and attract more gamers to participate.
Starting from May, a weekly online qualifier round for each game
have come into play, running for six weeks. The qualifier champion will
automatically earn a spot at the grand finale, while all participating
teams will earn points based on their performance in that week. The 10
teams scoring the highest after the six qualifier rounds will proceed to
the grand finale during Hong Kong Computer and Communication Festival,
where they will face off against all finalists for a chance to win the
grand championship and claim fabulous prizes.
The EPL is already in its fourth round of LOL, fourth round of
AOV, and third round of eFootball PES2020. More than 300 teams have
already signed up to play. Anyone who wishes to join the weekly
qualifiers should sign up today while the action is hot.
The EPL is organised by Esports Association Hong Kong
supported by Cyberport’s Esports Industry Facilitation Scheme, which
offers flexibility for projects to move online in view of the pandemic. |
