CVCF
2020 is chock-full of fantastic programming under the theme “Navigating
New Normal of Tech Venturing”. In addition to examining the latest
macro-economic outlook and mega trends, VC and corporate venture
strategies, CVCF 2020 will explore a gamut of exciting new topics and
host two spotlight events - the EdVentures Global EdTech Summit and Silicon Dragon 2020.
New topics for new inspiration
Participants can expect illuminating discussions on such fresh
topics as the new global venture dynamics, cross-border capital flow
reshaped, venture debt, special purpose acquisition company (SPAC),
successful start-up transformations amid COVID-19, women funders and
founders, the rise of digital assets, EdTech as a new venture hotspot,
boosting start-up ecosystem via institutional venture support and
initiatives, latest exit strategies, and more.
Impacted by the COVID-19 and China-US trade tensions, participants
can indulge in some heated discussions on geo-political and
socio-economic market bearings, with topics like recalibrating China-US
venture orientation, the Asia opportunity as the world’s new growth
powerhouse, and transformative technologies for work and play in the
next normal.
Moreover, the Cyberport Investors Network (CIN) will again
celebrate its anniversary during CVCF. Cindy Chow, Chairlady of the CIN
and Executive Director of Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund, will
share the latest developments of the CIN’s start-up fundraising efforts
and plans for investors engagement.
All of the discussions are designed to help investors,
enterprises, and technopreneurs alike navigate the new normal of tech
venturing and to connect their way to success during these capricious
times.
Peter Yan, CEO of Cyberport, said: “Despite the challenges that
COVID-19 has inflicted upon the global and local economy, the rapid
acceleration of digital transformation and the myriad business
opportunities being created by start-ups offer much cause for optimism.
Investors today are seeking dedicated business networks, such as
Cyberport’s, to shine a light on the companies, industries, and
innovations that present high growth potential in the new normal.”
He added: “CVCF is designed to do precisely that. Our goals are to
springboard more start-ups to success, connect investors and businesses
to start-ups, and at the same time inject strong and sustainable growth
momentum into Hong Kong’s economy.”
New format for a total CVCF experience
Taking advantage of the virtual format, CVCF 2020 will launch an
event platform to deliver a more engaging online interactive experience
for participants.
In addition to having both live streaming and on-demand playbacks
of programmes, the platform will begin operation sooner. From 21 October
to mid-November, the platform will feature a series of activities to
generate greater value for participants and synergy with the main event.
For example, the Innovator Showcase will feature more than 80
virtual booths of local and overseas start-ups presenting
multi-discipline tech solutions, allowing investors and CVCF
participants more time to interact with the most enterprising innovators
and explore collaboration possibilities. At Founder Stage, investors
could get quick glimpse of innovative start-up projects through short
pitch videos. Meanwhile, Investor Matching sessions will enable
investors to source deals easily and meet one-on-one with start-ups,
categorised by tech sectors and catering to different investment
appetites.
The CVCF Start-up Workshop will be staged on Day 2 of CVCF (4
November) to deep dive into tips and essentials of new normal start-up
strategies such as crafting more compelling pitch deck, creating global
advantages and making best of tech innovation for business growth.
Also on Day 2 would be EdVentures Global EdTech Summit
, a debut event co-created together with Esperanza to explore global
EdTech trends, market development and expansion opportunities in the new
normal. The EdVentures GBA Fellowship Programme pitch final will
also be staged during the event where 10 shortlisted EdTech fellows
around the world will compete to win valuable support to scale globally
and access to investment networks. Two Cyberport community members,
Mandarin Matrix and Xccelerate, are among the finalists representing
Hong Kong. Silicon Dragon 2020 will be staged on same day morning for more venture dynamics featuring exciting discussions on “Tech Titans 2020 & Beyond”.
Other fringe activities will also take place before, during, and
after the main days of CVCF 2020. The graduation ceremonies of the
Cyberport entrepreneurship programmes and the Financial Practitioners
FinTech Training Programme will also take place on 3 and 5 November
respectively.
