Gusto XR Lab is riding the promising wave of Extended Reality

Extended reality (XR) is all the rage these days. From marketing, gaming, and retail to construction and manufacturing, a wide range of industries are generating novel values and applications in synergising physical and virtual realities. Driven by the pandemic, global spending and investments in XR have even accelerated, with the IDC anticipating the strong growth to continue through to 2024.

Gusto XR Lab (previously 26Hz Technologies), is riding this promising wave. Soon after setting up in 2019, the grantee of the Cyberport Creative Micro Fund has already offered XR-based solutions (WebAR/VR, app development, etc.), production studio services, and proprietary software solutions to clients such as CSL, the Development Bureau, and Cyberport.

Gusto XR’s services are increasingly being sought by organisations that are looking to leverage immersive technologies to augment their marketing and user engagement strategies. For example, the start-up recently signed on the HKMOA to develop an AR application for “Art For Everyone” Campaign 2021 and is also working closely with CSL to demonstrate 5G’s possibilities, including developing a web-based CMS system for merchant to update contents in the CSL 5G Lens AR Application.

Services aside, Gusto XR is developing two headline products, the CoReality SDK and the CoReality Hub (which launches in Q1 2021), to bolster the long-term growth of the company and the industry as a whole. The former product is a cross-platform development solution for building AR experiences for mobile web and iOS/Android applications, while the latter is a community and collaboration platform for AR/VR developers and creators to showcase their works, discuss, share, manage 3D assets, and collaborate.

On the investment front, Gusto XR has received a strategic investment from the Gusto Collective, Asia’s first Brandtech group that serves affluent clients in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, and London. With this connection, Gusto XR is now in discussion with some of the agency’s prominent clients to explore exciting WebAR/VR opportunities. The start-up is also ramping up its portfolio and client base for future development across the Asia-Pacific region.
