To unleash powers of innovation among enterprising young minds, Cyberport Academy has rolled out a raft of programmes specifically for students at secondary and primary levels this summer. Over 1,000 students are welcome to take part in more than 10 summer programmes and internships.
Cyberport x Jumpstart Entrepreneurial STEM Programme is a brand-new programme which aims to equip secondary students with basic knowledge of initiating a STEM start-up, as well as to foster an entrepreneurial spirit among young students. Minnie Chan, a participant student from Secondary 5, has learnt the essentials of operating a start-up business. She looks forward to gaining more hands-on experiences from the upcoming internship with one of the Cyberport start-ups for a month. Inspired by the programme, she aspires to an entrepreneurial career to turn her group project idea into reality.
Meanwhile, Cyberport Academy is strengthening its role as a career development platform through two signature internship programmes, Cyberport Digital Tech Internship Programme and the Cyberport Scale Up Placement Programme. This year, the Scale Up Placement programme has extended its reach to eight universities and 14 faculties, setting the scene for university students to try their hands with Cyberport start-ups.
Sarah Leleu, a master student from Law, Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (LITE) Lab of HKU was matched with Cyberport start-up, Wada Bento, through the Scale Up Placement Programme this summer. During her placement, she researched into technology licensing and exporting the hot-chain vending machine abroad.
Sarah Leleu remarks that her experience at Wada Bento was eye-opening and enthused her with working in the I&T industry. Jason Chen, CEO and co-founder of Wada Bento, notes that they have limited resources as a start-up. Through this programme, they afforded to have an intern with law expertise to research on legal matters helpful for their plans for overseas market expansion.
Other programmes for students include the FinTech Summer Program, AI Bootcamp, CAFEA Young Talent Smart City Forum, and RoboMaster 2021 Youth Tournament (Hong Kong) which extends application to primary school students for the first time this year.
Eric Chan, Chief Public Mission Officer of Cyberport, said, “Cyberport has always been committed to nurturing I&T talents. I am delighted that Cyberport Academy has extended its summer training programs to secondary school students. In the future, we will introduce a greater range of training programs and courses targeting secondary school students. It is our goal to benefit more youngsters as well as cultivating more technology talents for the city.”
