Pixio, a home-grown mobile gaming studio known for games like Art Inc and Tap Tap Trillionaire, sees room for growth in Brazil and the broader Asian market in its push for global expansion. The Cyberport incubatee is keeping an eye out for markets in Southeast Asia with its portfolio of casual and single-player mobile games. The studio was founded based on the idea that Hong Kong game studios can create quality mobile games for a global audience.
Amid Pixio’s global push, the company has seen robust growth recently as its games have generated 30 million global downloads so far.
The success of its hit title Summoner’s Greed marks a milestone for Pixio—to date, the tower defense game has accumulated 15 million downloads and surpassed over HK$100 million in lifetime revenue in just over five years after its release in 2017. In September 2021, Pixio also launched their eighth title ‘Me is King,’ a farming simulation game available on both iOS and Android.
The team incorporates data-driven game design and beautiful art styles into their non-traditional games about cooking, trading stocks, and constructing cities. In 2019, they won the Best Gamer Art at the Game Daily Connect Exhibition and the Best Indie Game from Google Play for their art bidding game Art Inc.
"When we just started, we were not able to find publishers that could give us the guidance we needed. We did everything ourselves and grew the company one employee at a time. From an initial team of six, we have now grown to be 25 people, and we wish to give back to our community by publishing games from smaller Hong Kong-based developers." says Pixio’s founder Jeremy Lam.
More than publishing their own games, Pixio believes that there are many more young game developers waiting to be cultivated in Hong Kong. With their passionate and dedicated team, they plan to turn their company into a global game development powerhouse by 2023 through attracting value-add investors.
