The Hong Kong government has published the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint. It contains four broad development directions and eight major strategies aimed to steer Hong Kong’s I&T development over the next five to 10 years and establish the city as an international I&T centre.
Chairman of Cyberport, Simon Chan, expressed Cyberport’s appreciation of the blueprint, saying, “We believe the blueprint’s comprehensive, forward-looking, and strategic missions and initiatives will be critical for the development of Hong Kong into an international I&T centre. Cyberport stands ready to assist the HKSAR Government in implementing the blueprint’s initiatives and realising its goals.”
The four development directions are: enhancing Hong Kong’s I&T ecosystem and promoting the city’s “new industrialisation”; enlarging the I&T talent pool to create a strong impetus for growth; promoting digital economy development and Hong Kong’s smart city transformation; and proactively integrating Hong Kong into the country’s development and consolidating the city’s role as a bridge connecting the Mainland and the rest of the world.
“Having served as Hong Kong’s digital technology flagship and key entrepreneurship incubator, many of our ongoing efforts are already aligned with the blueprint’s development directions,” Mr Chan explained. “We will double down on our efforts and identify new areas where we can contribute our strength, such as deploying various apparatuses to improve start-up financing, providing more room for start-ups to grow via Cyberport’s expansion project, and continuing to support the development of the Northern Metropolis and San Tin Technopole. We look forward to working with the government and other members of society to inject greater innovative impetus into the I&T development of Hong Kong’s and our country.”
