As more businesses transform digitally and expand their online presence, risk and the demand for cybersecurity are growing in lockstep. To help businesses, especially SMEs, identify their cybersecurity vulnerabilities and strengthen protection, CyberBay, a former Cyberport incubatee and current member of the Cyberport Professional Services Network, has joined with the Hong Kong Police Force to launch the “BugHunting Campaign”.
The two-month campaign, to be held this June and July, will call on cybersecurity experts to act as “bounty hunters”. Participating companies will each be given HK$5,000 in free credits by the campaign, and they can list their “bug bounty missions” on CyberBay’s platform. Vetted bounty hunters can then accept the missions, conduct vulnerability testing for the companies, and provide cybersecurity reports and one-on-one consultations. If companies wish to develop solutions, implement fixes, or conduct retests, they can hire the bounty hunters for additional services.
To instil trust, all the bounty hunters are vetted by the campaign for both their identities and their credentials. CyberBay’s Lighthouse technology will also detect behaviours irrelevant to the bounty scope and requirements and automatically terminate suspicious bounty-hunting sessions.
This first-of-its-kind cybersecurity campaign aims to achieve a triple-win outcome. Businesses can better fortify themselves against cyber threats at a low cost and demonstrate good cybersecurity governance to their clients. Cybersecurity experts can refine their skills and join a community of cybersecurity guardians. Meanwhile, Hong Kong can enjoy a safer digital environment as it develops into a digital economy and I&T hub, as well as foster a larger local cybersecurity talent pool.
The campaign is accepting applications until 26 May. Please visit the campaign website for details.
