DELF 2023 powers up entertainment to go beyond boundaries

⋯⋯⋯⋯

Three days of enlightening industry discussions and an exhilarating digital entertainment carnival culminated in an all-time high attendance at the Digital Entertainment Leadership Forum (DELF) 2023. Over 3,500 participants turned out in person and online to explore “Power Up! When Entertainment Goes Beyond 3oundaries”.

As part of the festivities commemorating Cyberport’s 20th anniversary and as a proud component of the “Happy Hong Kong” campaign, DELF 2023 was officially launched with the presence of notable dignitaries, including the Hon Paul Chan Mo-po, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR; Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR; Zhang Zhihua, Director General of the Youth Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the HKSAR; Simon Chan, Chairman of Cyberport; and Peter Yan, CEO of Cyberport.

In his opening remarks, the Hon Paul Chan acknowledged Hong Kong’s evolution into a flourishing hub for digital entertainment and emphasised the HKSAR Government’s belief in the transformative potential of Web3 and blockchain technology. He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to nurturing a dynamic Web3 ecosystem through supportive policies and resource allocation.

Simon Chan, meanwhile, said that with the government’s backing, Cyberport is poised to offer Web3 start-ups enhanced prospects for growth and access to global markets. He also pledged Cyberport’s continued focus on talent development and raising awareness about Web3 to accelerate the industry’s expansion within Hong Kong.

A Digital Entertainment Extravaganza

DELF 2023 commenced with an AR gimmick by Cyberport company ICE Production to welcome the entrance of the Financial Secretary, followed by mesmerising naked-eye 3D animated opening show produced by young and innovative digital production company SPINOR. The conference featured captivating discussions involving over 90 experts and artists from both international and local backgrounds. These discussions delved deep into the most recent industry trends and the ever-evolving landscape of digital entertainment experiences across various domains, including arts, education, sports, and lifestyle, all within the context of the Web3 era.

During the event, the Financial Secretary inaugurated Cyberport’s Web3 Living Lab, a dedicated platform aimed at promoting Web3 technologies, fostering business innovation, encouraging experimentation, and facilitating knowledge exchange. Enterprises are afforded the opportunity to showcase their Web3 solutions, while community members can engage in learning and explore collaborative possibilities.

DELF participants were also treated to a diverse array of Artainment, Sportainment, Edutainment, and LOHAS experiences in four immersive zones. Among the highlights was a metaverse catwalk fashion show presented by the community start-up Ubivox in collaboration with renowned fashion designer Vivienne Tam. Another remarkable experience was an AI-driven, heart-rate-sensing immersive art installation “Heart Resonance”. Attendees also had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a painting experience, made possible through the partnership of HTC VIVE VR Solutions and the talented Hong Kong artist Bernard Wong.

What’s more, DELF’s Play-to-Earn platform rewarded visitors who completed tasks within the experience zones with Eat-Play-Win experiences at Cyberport. To round out this digital entertainment carnival, a range of electrifying AI concerts, eSPORTS FOR ALL events, tournaments, and competitions catered to all age groups, including the Elderly e-Sports Tournament & Experience Day, were also staged.
