Cyberport has been acknowledged as “State-level Scientific and Technological Enterprise Incubator” by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). The plaque unveiling ceremony was held at Cyberport Entrepreneurship Centre on 10 October 2023, officiated by Professor Zhang Guangjun, Vice-Minister of MOST, Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR Government, Simon Chan, Chairman of Cyberport and Peter Yan, CEO of Cyberport and witnessed by other honourable guests, to recognise Cyberport’s outstanding achievement in driving innovation and entrepreneurship in Hong Kong.
Professor Zhang Guangjun, Vice Minister of MOST, said, "As the largest digital innovative community and FinTech hub in Hong Kong, Cyberport is reputed as the promising hub for innovative entrepreneurship start-ups. The plaque unveiling ceremony for ‘State-level Scientific and Technological Enterprise Incubator’ at Cyberport today not only recognises Cyberport’s contributions in nurturing innovation and technology (I&T) enterprises over years but also signifies the new era of I&T cooperation between the Mainland and Hong Kong and also a new journey of co-creating a high-level innovation and entrepreneurship platform.”
Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, said "Upon recommendation of the HKSAR Government, MOST acknowledged Cyberport as ‘State-level Scientific and Technological Enterprise Incubator’, recognising its continuous efforts and achievements in nurturing Hong Kong's technology start-ups. It is a significant milestone for Cyberport and Hong Kong’s I&T ecosystem to have received such national honour.”
Simon Chan, Chairman of Cyberport, said, “Cyberport is grateful to the country for recognizing our efforts in nurturing innovative and entrepreneurial talents. As Cyberport celebrates our 20th Anniversary, the plaque unveiling ceremony not only represents the Nation's recognition of Cyberport’s efforts, but signifies Cyberport is embarking on a new journey. Cyberport will continue to nurture innovative talents, support I&T enterprises, give full play to its role as a ‘State-level Scientific and Technological Enterprise Incubator’.”
MOST delegation interacted with representatives of three Cyberport community companies, including Hepha, Asia's first platform for IP incubation, verification & licensing, MVisioner, a company specialises in 3D intelligent and AI medical image solutions and Gense Technologies, a medical technology company.
The delegation also visited and exchanged views with Cyberport’s technology enterprises, including Biren Technology, a leading AI chip company in the Mainland which has just settled in Hong Kong, ZA Bank, Hong Kong’s first licensed virtual bank, as well as Roborn, a technology R&D company specialises in 5G motion-control robots.
Over the past three years since Cyberport received the national recognition, the number of Cyberport community companies has grown from 1,600 to over 2,000 with the number of unicorns nearly doubling to seven. Cyberport Incubation Programme has admitted 345 startups over the past three years, bringing the total number to 1,198, while our venture fund has supported 260 innovative projects, reaching a total number of 885.
