2024 “Maker in China” Hong Kong Chapter is calling for entries

The Hong Kong Chapter of the “Maker in China” (MIC) SME Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Contest is calling for entries. I&T companies that aim towards leaping higher and expanding into GBA and Mainland markets can capitalise on this opportunity to seek business expansion and other entrepreneurship support. Since 2018, the contest, a flagship event of Cyberport, has propelled numerous community companies to new heights.

 

“Maker in China” aims to bridge innovative technologies with enterprises in Hong Kong and the GBA to promote digital economy growth; match market-oriented operations and government policies to foster I&T industry development; connect innovative technology projects with industrial parks for commercialisation; and facilitate the cooperation and upgrade of industries.  This national level contest is organised by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer of the HKSAR Government in collaboration with the China Centre for Promotion of SME Development of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China (MIIT), the Department of Youth Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government (LOCPG) in the HKSAR, and the China International Cooperation Association of SMEs co-organised the Contest. Formulated by the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited (Cyberport Company), the Angel Investment Foundation and the Guangzhou SME’s Promotion for Specialization Refinement Differentiation Innovation Development. The Contest is highly valued by the governments of the two cities.

 

MiC Hong Kong is an important platform for Hong Kong start-ups and SMEs to better integrate into the overall development of the country and expand their business opportunities in the GBA. Apart from representing Hong Kong to join the state level MiC Global Contest Finals in Mainland China, winning teams can also gain business matching opportunities with a number of Mainland enterprises and set up their businesses in a number of cities in the GBA.

 

Projects cover tech areas accentuating new quality productive forces in line with the central government’s strategy.

 

The top 10 Hong Kong teams will compete against top teams from other regional chapters at the Global Contest.  They will be provided with assistance for business expansion in the GBA, including matching with Mainland investors, landing in technology parks, and receiving mentorship for the translation of tech innovations.

 

Finalist teams in Hong Kong will also be eligible for 1-on-1 business matching sessions with investors and enterprises from Mainland, fast-track interview of the Cyberport Incubation Programme, 3-month free usage of Smart-Space flexi-desk, participation in major international exhibitions, among other benefits.
