The Cyberport University Partnership Programme (CUPP) has returned, and this 2024 edition, the nineth incarnation of the initiative organised by the Cyberport Academy and Web3Hub@Cyberport, is notable for its newfound emphasis on Web3.0. The programme’s fresh focus follows Cyberport’s HK$50 million endowment last year from the HKSAR Government to foster Web3.0 ecosystem growth and cultivate talent skilled in this transformative technology.
This year, CUPP has admitted 20 teams comprised of some 50 students and recent graduates from 11 local universities. CUPPers will visit Draper University in Silicon Valley for a 70-hour entrepreneurship boot camp consisting of seminars, company visits, mentorship activities, networking dinners, business coaching, and pitching sessions with Silicon Valley investors. This intensive programme will expose CUPPers to the latest industry trends, aid them in developing essential business skills, encourage innovative thinking, and equip them for entrepreneurship in the Web3.0 and FinTech fields.
Upon their return in August, CUPPers will pitch their Web3.0 or blockchain-related business proposals to a Cyberport panel of judges. After the presentations, the Cyberport Creative Micro Fund (CCMF) will award as many as 13 winning teams HK$100,000 each to help transform their entrepreneurial dreams into reality.
CUPP 2024 is generously supported by 11 local universities – City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Metropolitan University, Lingnan University, Saint Francis University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Education University of Hong Kong, The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and The University of Hong Kong.
It has also received an honorary sponsorship from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and additional support from the Securities & Futures Commission of Hong Kong, as well as other industry partners.
Since its 2015 inception, the Cyberport University Partnership Programme has provided professional FinTech training for over 530 local university students and funded a total of 87 teams with CCMF grants to kick-start their entrepreneurial careers.
