Cyberport has been establishing bilateral relations with Mainland I&T institutions to connect Hong Kong start-ups with more opportunities on the Mainland. It has also been helping Mainland I&T enterprises leverage Hong Kong’s “super-connector” advantages to achieve their global ambitions.
Recently, Cyberport signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Beijing Zhongguancun Science City Innovation Development Co., Ltd. (ZGC Science City). The purpose of this initiative is to boost I&T commercialisation and ecosystem development in both cities, offering I&T enterprises a broader scope to grow and flourish.
The MoU outlined plans for both parties to assist each other’s start-ups in establishing themselves in Hong Kong and Beijing through their respective organisations. They will also arrange exchange programmes and business matching events to encourage collaboration between I&T enterprises and enhance the development of their I&T ecosystems.
ZGC Science City, situated in Beijing’s Haidian District, is an investment and service platform created by the Beijing Haidian District Committee and District Government. Haidian District is committed to developing a “high tech, sophisticated, and cutting-edge” industrial system focused on emerging technologies. With its open and inclusive approach and emphasis on international cooperation, ZGC Science City supports enterprises in expanding into global markets while attracting international capital and leading companies to Beijing. The MoU with Cyberport will further these goals while helping Hong Kong’s start-ups establish a presence on the Mainland to benefit from the country’s vast market opportunities and rapidly growing innovation ecosystem.
Simon Chan, Chairman of Cyberport, believes the MoU will drive the growth of innovative entrepreneurship in both locations. He stated that the partnership will provide more opportunities for deeper exchange and collaboration, fostering “a mutually beneficial environment where complementary strengths can be harnessed for shared success.”
