The Cyberport Technology Centre is dedicated to bringing cutting-edge industry tools and knowledge to Hong Kong in order to develop a diversified technology-oriented local industry with a global outlook and network. Since its inception in 2003, the Technology Centre (formerly the Digital Media Centre) has supported local businesses through the investment of high-end production equipment, as well as the production of videos, films, animations and game content for online platforms.
With the rapid development of ICT, the Centre will further enhance its role in the adoption of state-of-the-art technology in the streams of digital entertainment, social media, cloud computing and mobility solution to better help Hong Kong ICT start-ups capture growing opportunities in these four areas.
The Centre provides live broadcast production services via the Digital Cinema Exchange platform, including 2K/4K streaming, Virtual Reality and more. The Centre also supports new era pre-production and post-production, such as multi-format conversion and stereoscopic 3D creation, as well as the application of motion control and Augmented Reality.
Social media technology is becoming increasingly entwined with new emerging technologies. As interactivity and quick access to human behavioral information becomes more important in this highly digitized environment, a revolutionary new era of social networking promises vast revenue generating potential for businesses poised to adapt to this new knowledge-based economy. The Centre has collaborated with local institutes to prepare young people to take advantage of business opportunities arising through social media, and to assist them staying abreast of new technology and its commercial applications.
Cloud computing is another crucial technological focus for Cyberport. With a comprehensive and integrated solution delivered by cloud technology, an ICT company can manage its business more efficiently and effectively even as it grows in size and complexity. The Centre offers the Cyberport Cloud Computing Platform for the purpose of building a simulation environment, enabling the transfer of updated cloud computing knowledge and technology to start-up companies and businesses engaged in Information technology and digital entertainment.
In partnership with the Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association, the Centre will establish a Mobility Experience Centre (MEC) in order to drive development and promote Hong Kong as a leading hub in mobile and wireless application development in the region. Visitors to MEC will receive hands-on experience in wireless technology applications, enjoying both the convenience and fun of these technologies and learning how they can be applied to their own daily operations. The MEC will also showcase innovative wireless products and applications from Hong Kong and overseas. This promises to be the ideal solution for SMEs seeking to learn more about the latest trend in mobile technology, and we're certain it will become a highly in-demand destination at Cyberport.
Equipped with innovative facilities and solutions, the Centre is able to maintain its neutral role in providing non-competitive assistance to businesses. This enables businesses to achieve proficiency in the latest technologies and tools, and to produce world-class content and products that further Cyberport and Hong Kong as a leading digital hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
