The Technology Centre is dedicated to bringing cutting-edge industry tools and knowledge to Hong Kong in order to develop a diversified technology-oriented local industry with a global outlook and network. Since its inception in 2003, the Technology Centre (formerly the Digital Media Centre) has supported local businesses through the investment of high-end production equipment, as well as the production of video, film, animation and game content for online platforms.
With the rapid development of ICT, the Centre has further enhanced its role in the adoption of state-of-the-art technology for digital entertainment, social media, cloud computing and mobility solutions to better help ICT start-ups capture growing opportunities in these four areas.
Cloud computing technology is becoming the critical strategic focus for Cyberport. The agility and scalability of cloud computing technology provides far greater flexibility to deploy new applications and services that add genuine business value faster, at the lowest possible cost, and with the least possible risk. The Centre has successfully deployed an industry recognised hybrid cloud platform offering Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), to drive cloud adoption among Cyberport tenants, incubatees and ICT start-ups. The Platform offers the Cyberport community and ICT practitioners the opportunity to harness these scalable and flexible computing resources in their applications/projects. More importantly, the platform enables cloud users to implement a cost-effective IT infrastructure plan at low cost and accelerate application/product development.
To facilitate animation creators, the cloud platform also provides a new SaaS application, "3D Cloud". The 3D Cloud can greatly decrease the need for traditional high cost rendering equipment, and provide a cutting-edge, cloud-based 3D rendering platform to local CG production houses and local students.
In November 2013, the Centre launched the Cyberport Community Cloud (Cyberport Cloud) which is the first-ever Community Cloud (Cyberport Cloud) in Hong Kong and it is one of the key initiatives under the Centre. As the first community cloud platform in Hong Kong, it offers easy-to-use and self-provisioning Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) to all Cyberport tenants, start-ups and local ICT companies and is aimed at allowing efficient operations and the ability to expand their business in a more agile, cost-effective and collaborative manner. With Cyberport Cloud, Cyberport will be able to offer users dynamically distributed computing power from pooled resources to meet the shared demand for the ICT community, and to help ICT entrepreneurs to improve collaboration and increase productivity.

Digital Cinema Exchange (DCX)
The Digital Cinema Exchange is a convergence of media and communication technologies that has taken Hong Kong cinema to new heights. Not only does the Digital Cinema Exchange (DCX) aim to support the Hong Kong film industry in transitioning from film to digital technology, but also in transforming cinema services through the screening of live alternative content, like music concerts. Technology and innovation provides yet another new model of “Music in Cinema” to a cinema audience. The DCX platform has also been bringing live sports events to cinemas since 2010. Such new business opportunities are turning a new page for the digital entertainment industry.
Upon completion of a pilot scheme funded by the Film Development Council in 2011, the Centre has continuously enhanced the DCX platform through the expansion of its network coverage to other local and overseas performing venues and enabling value-added services such as real time advertising and live subtitling in addition to other interactive technology. The Centre continuously extends its DCX capabilities both in scope and depth based on our digital transmission know-how to offer the local theatre industry more innovative, value-added services.
High-end Audio and Video Production
Since 2005, the Technology Centre has provided High-end Audio Visual Production that aims to offer state-of-the-art production facilities and the latest technologies to film exhibitors, production houses, content distributors, educational institutions, Cyberport tenants and incubatees, in order to enable them to produce world-class digital content. The rental high-end production facilities include a HD live shooting studio, multipurpose audio suites and non-linear editing compounds. Apart from this, we also deliver one-stop creative production solutions and onsite event production to any company requiring high quality filming services for promotional events.
We will be enhancing our facility with the addition of a High Converged Master Control Room to provide an integrated digital environment within which content creation tasks can be completed from start to finish for multimedia production. It will be able to support the latest technology development including high speed streaming, stereoscopic 3D, digital media conversion, acquisition and processing of 2K/4K digital content and live broadcasts. Audio-visual content creators will benefit from using the latest technologies and possessing better control over their time and resources, which as a result, constitutes a quantum leap in the efficiency and performance of a typical production.
Equipped with innovative facilities and solutions, the Centre is able to maintain its neutral role in providing non-competitive assistance to businesses. This enables businesses to achieve proficiency in the latest technologies and tools, and to produce world-class content and products that further Cyberport and Hong Kong as a leading digital hub in the Asia-Pacific region.
